Welcome to Sherwood Forest Golf Club

Captain.jpg

On behalf of the membership may I extend a very warm welcome to all visitors to Sherwood Forest Golf club during 2010.  I have no doubt that our stunning heathland course, friendly and efficient staff and hospitable members will combine to make your visit a memorable occasion and one which you will wish to repeat.

To ensure that the course retains its position among the top heathland courses in the country a great deal of improvement work has been undertaken in recent years under the guidance of Natural England and the Sherwood Forest Trust.  SFGC regularly plays host to prestigious regional and national events including the England Boys Amateur Strokeplay Championship in 2006 and the English Open Men’s Mid-Amateur Trophy in July 2010.

Our course is attractive throughout the year with swathes of heather, gorse and broom.  The fast running immaculately maintained fairways are bordered by mixed woodland, adding a further dimension of difficulty for the wayward strike.  The many bunkers are strategically placed to catch both long hitters and the average golfer and our greens are superb, fast and true with the subtlest of borrows.  The many and varied challenges provide an excellent test of golf and will examine the prowess and resolve of golfers at all levels of ability.

You will have to travel far to match the view of the 1st, 4th, 5th and 18th holes from the clubhouse window; but do not stand and stare too long, thinking of "past glories" or "what might have been" otherwise you might miss out on the warm welcome and high quality food that is waiting to put the seal on a perfect day’s golf.

If you are visiting SFGC for the first time I hope that we will welcome you on many future occasions.  If you are an old friend - welcome back.

2010 Lady Captain - Mrs. Mary Ryan

member2.jpg

Having been a member of Sherwood Forest since 2001, I am very proud to be Ladies Captain for 2010.

Sherwood is a very enjoyable course to play, either as a visitor or on a regular basis as it presents a different challenge every time. It is always well presented and maintained and you can be very proud of a good score here.

We have an active Ladies Section, playing competitions every Tuesday and two Sundays a month. We play Silver and Bronze league matches, several Friendly matches and also compete in The Mail on Sunday and Daily Mail Foursomes.
We are keen to attract new Lady Members, who will be given a very warm welcome.

The Mixed Section is one of the most enjoyable and sociable aspects of golf at Sherwood, we play competitions most Sunday afternoons during the summer months.

If you play at Sherwood during 2010 I am sure you will enjoy your golf and also the excellent catering in our clubhouse overlooking the course.
